  • Note: Signal quality can affect feature performance and result in performance degradation (eg, a weak signal, an older generation network such as 3G vs. 4G or LTE). 
  • Live track must be set in the Garmin Connect app before first use.

How do I set up Live Track?
The following steps will install Live Track for a recorded GPS activity:
1. Open the GarminConnect app 
2. Access the menu o Android: select in the top left corner IOS: choose more in the lower right corner 
3. Select Security and Tracking (if not present, go to step 4) 
4. Select Live track 
5. I Select Consent 
6. Select devices.
7. Select the device for which you want to enable Live Track 
8. Selected (Android only) 
9. Select the session name to rename the live track session Under Share Web Link, add recipients to view your live track session 
10. It is a necessary step to start the Live Track session 
11. Select Start Live track, then start an activity on your Garmin device.
12. Use Auto Start to automatically start Live Track every time you start an activity on your device. This feature will be displayed for compatible devices. Helpful Live Track Tips
Below are suggestions to improve the experience of Live Track for you and the people with whom you share your activity tracking? 
  • Before starting an activity on your device, make sure you have a good GPS signal. Wait a few moments after receiving a prompt before starting your workout. This will allow the Live Track Map to display your location at the beginning of an activity.
  • Lost current of the cellular signal may not display your current location in the live track map. The live track will display your last known location and should be withdrawn after your phone receives the signal again. 
  • For compatible devices, use the Auto Start feature in Live Track. Garmin Supports your activity to be shared automatically every time you start an activity.
  • If you have more than one Garmin device with the Garmin Connect app, make sure you select the correct one under Devices in the Live Track Settings before starting your activity.

Tall buildings or large rock surface can reflect of GPS signals before it reaches the receiver, which increase the travel time of the signal and cause an error.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a constellation of more than 24 satellites known as Navstar, operated by the U.S. Department of defense. The first GPS satellite was launched in 1978. These satellites are synchronized to transmit the signal at the same time. These satellites are about 12,000 above the earth, flying at 9,000 mph and each has the exact time of an atomic clock. A GPS satellite weighs about 2000 pounds and with the solar panel extended, it is about 17 feet long. Even if the signals are moving at the speed of light, the large distances involved mean that each signal arrives at a different time. A GPS receiver can calculate its own position by measuring the time differences between each satellite.

Garmin global positioning system receivers operate with the use of GPS satellites orbiting the earth. When the receiver is able to determine the position of the user, the speed that the user is moving can be determined by continuously tracking his position with the satellite and measuring how far the user has travelled for how long a time. If the destination is input by the user, the receiver can measure the distance to the destination and time to the destination based on the current speed of the recipient.
